The Piano Man Newsletter - The amazing Akash Vincent

Posted by Arjun Sagar Gupta, on 05 April 2016

NOTE: With great happiness, I must add that Akash has since rejoined our team - Arjun. Please read on...

I am a singer-songwriter, taking up short-term stints from time to time to support myself nancially, and one of them was making graphic designs for The Piano Man, which lasted for the past five months. And now before I move onto my next chapter, I want to take this opportunity to say a few things I've been wanting to say.

The Piano Man Jazz Club, I believe is history in the making for music in Delhi, and maybe even the country. It's amazing to see a venue in the city hosting live music six days a week (Now seven). One would've thought that we'll fall short of artists, and what do you know? There are many who've just been waiting to be heard. And TPMJC has been that top-notch, yet welcoming platform for them.

For me it was new when I heard a bar owner telling its customers that it's a music venue rst. And there have been many customers since then, coming here knowing that music is exactly what they are there for. And for all of us for whom music is a means of expression, it's a blessing when we have an audience that lends an ear and responds. I think I speak for all artists when I say that this is one of the few venues that takes good care of its artists, and that every act that performs here, goes home happy. As awestruck as I might be sounding, it's how I've felt for this venue ever since I first stepped in here. A child in me got to live his dream when I first performed here, imagining that I've gone back in time to a classic old jazz club.

With this I want to conclude my exit note, and say that I still feel the same sense of gratitude as I've ever felt for this place. This was a temporary shelter that I took, but it's been very much like home, and now I continue following my dreams. More often than not, a musician is not the best bet when it comes to hiring, and Arjun left me surprised when he said he still prefers to hire musicians, "because they put their heart into things". I want to thank Arjun for being as understanding as he's been, to the wonderful team of friends that I got the chance to work with, and to all of you who have been following The Piano Man. It's exciting to be building a music scene in this city together, where every individual supports the other.

Wishing The Piano Man all the love and success it deserves,
    Akash Vincent
